Summary: 

St John Ambulance Cadets provide First Aid and leadership training through a structured programme. Cadets take part in competitions and provide first aid support at events.

In their own words:

“St John Ambulance is a leading first aid charity in the UK. Young people aged 10–17 can join one of our Cadet units. These are a great way for teens and young people to take part in volunteer work and learn valuable life skills.”

Further opportunities: 

Train to be a fully qualified event First Aider. Become a Peer Educator and train other young people in First Aid.

What you do: 

Cadets follow a core First Aid curriculum, while volunteering in their local communities, learning leadership and public speaking skills and working towards the Grand Prior Award (which requires you to complete 24 subjects out of the 70+ available). You can volunteer at major events as an official Cadet First Aider, taking on significant responsibility and developing your leadership skills.

Why do it:

You will gain incredibly useful life skills appreciated by employers and directly applicable to daily life. As a Cadet, you can challenge yourself to try lots of new activities! You can also complete other awards like your DofE as part of Cadets.
