The John Muir Award offers a chance to earn an award while connecting with nature – the award is structured in a very flexible way, allowing you to shape your own project.

“The John Muir Trust is a conservation charity dedicated to protecting and enhancing wild places. The Award helps people connect with nature and enjoy and care for wild places. It’s for people of all backgrounds – groups, families and individuals. It’s non-competitive, inclusive and accessible.”

Become a conservation volunteer with your local Wildlife Trust! Fundraise for the John Muir Trust and support others to do their own John Muir Awards.

What you do: 

There are four key challenges:

  • Discover – identify a wild place that interests you

  • Explore – visit at different times, take time to observe the area, learn about the natural features

  • Conserve – support your wild place e.g. by volunteering, campaigning etc.

  • Share – tell others about what you have done and learned e.g. keep a blog, create an artwork, lead a guided walk

There are three award levels with different levels of time commitment.

Why do it:

This Award gives you the chance to get outdoors and improve the local natural environment. The Award is open to many different activities – you can be as creative and ambitious as you like!
